वृषारूढ़ा शूलधरां शैलपुत्री यशस्विनीम॥
श्री दुर्गा का प्रथम रूप श्री शैलपुत्री हैं। पर्वतराज हिमालय की पुत्री होने के कारण ये शैलपुत्री कहलाती हैं। नवरात्र के प्रथम दिन इनकी पूजा और आराधना की जाती है। गिरिराज हिमालय की पुत्री होने के कारण भगवती का प्रथम स्वरूप शैलपुत्री का है, जिनकी आराधना से प्राणी सभी मनोवांछित फल प्राप्त कर लेता है।
माँ शैलपुत्री दाहिने हाथ में त्रिशूल और बाएँ हाथ में कमल का पुष्प लिए अपने वाहन वृषभ पर विराजमान होतीं हैं. नवरात्र के इस प्रथम दिन की उपासना में साधक अपने मन को ‘मूलाधार’ चक्र में स्थित करते हैं, शैलपुत्री का पूजन करने से ‘मूलाधार चक्र’ जागृत होता है और यहीं से योग साधना आरंभ होती है जिससे अनेक प्रकार की शक्तियां प्राप्त होती हैं।
मां दुर्गा शक्ति की उपासना का पर्व शारदीय नवरात्र प्रतिपदा से नवमी तक सनातन काल से मनाया जाता रहा है. आदि-शक्ति के हर रूप की नवरात्र के नौ दिनों में पूजा की जाती है. अत: इसे नवरात्र के नाम भी जाना जाता है. सभीदेवता, राक्षस, मनुष्य इनकी कृपा-दृष्टि के लिए लालायित रहते हैं. यह हिन्दू समाज का एक महत्वपूर्ण त्यौहार है जिसका धार्मिक, आध्यात्मिक, नैतिकव सांसारिक इन चारों ही दृष्टिकोण से काफी महत्व है.दुर्गा पूजा का त्यौहार वर्ष में दो बार आता है, एक चैत्र मास में और दूसरा आश्विन मास में चैत्र माह में देवी दुर्गा की पूजा बड़े ही धूम धाम से की जाती है लेकिन आश्विन मास का विशेष महत्व है. दुर्गा सप्तशती में भी आश्विन माह के शारदीयनवरात्रों की महिमा का विशेष बखान किया गया है. दोनों मासों में दुर्गा पूजा का विधान एक जैसा ही है, दोनों ही प्रतिपदा से दशमी तिथि तक मनायी जाती है।
माता शैलपुत्री की कथा

एक बार प्रजापति दक्ष ने एक बहुत बड़ा यज्ञ किया। इसमें उन्होंने सारे देवताओं को अपना-अपना यज्ञ-भाग प्राप्त करने के लिए निमंत्रित किया, किन्तु शंकरजी को उन्होंने इस यज्ञ में निमंत्रित नहीं किया। सती ने जब सुना कि उनके पिता एक अत्यंत विशाल यज्ञ का अनुष्ठान कर रहे हैं, तब वहाँ जाने के लिए उनका मन विकल हो उठा।
अपनी यह इच्छा उन्होंने शंकरजी को बताई। सारी बातों पर विचार करने के बाद उन्होंने कहा- प्रजापति दक्ष किसी कारणवश हमसे रुष्ट हैं। अपने यज्ञ में उन्होंने सारे देवताओं को निमंत्रित किया है। उनके यज्ञ-भाग भी उन्हें समर्पित किए हैं, किन्तु हमें जान-बूझकर नहीं बुलाया है। कोई सूचना तक नहीं भेजी है। ऐसी स्थिति में तुम्हारा वहाँ जाना किसी प्रकार भी श्रेयस्कर नहीं होगा।'
शंकरजी के इस उपदेश से सती का प्रबोध नहीं हुआ। पिता का यज्ञ देखने, वहाँ जाकर माता और बहनों से मिलने की उनकी व्यग्रता किसी प्रकार भी कम न हो सकी। उनका प्रबल आग्रह देखकर भगवान शंकरजी ने उन्हें वहाँ जाने की अनुमति दे दी।
सती ने पिता के घर पहुँचकर देखा कि कोई भी उनसे आदर और प्रेम के साथ बातचीत नहीं कर रहा है। सारे लोग मुँह फेरे हुए हैं। केवल उनकी माता ने स्नेह से उन्हें गले लगाया। बहनों की बातों में व्यंग्य और उपहास के भाव भरे हुए थे।
परिजनों के इस व्यवहार से उनके मन को बहुत क्लेश पहुँचा। उन्होंने यह भी देखा कि वहाँ चतुर्दिक भगवान शंकरजी के प्रति तिरस्कार का भाव भरा हुआ है। दक्ष ने उनके प्रति कुछ अपमानजनक वचन भी कहे। यह सब देखकर सती का हृदय क्षोभ, ग्लानि और क्रोध से संतप्त हो उठा। उन्होंने सोचा भगवान शंकरजी की बात न मान, यहाँ आकर मैंने बहुत बड़ी गलती की है।
वे अपने पति भगवान शंकर के इस अपमान को सह न सकीं। उन्होंने अपने उस रूप को तत्क्षण वहीं योगाग्नि द्वारा जलाकर भस्म कर दिया। वज्रपात के समान इस दारुण-दुःखद घटना को सुनकर शंकरजी ने क्रुद्ध होअपने गणों को भेजकर दक्ष के उस यज्ञ का पूर्णतः विध्वंस करा दिया।
सती ने योगाग्नि द्वारा अपने शरीर को भस्म कर अगले जन्म में शैलराज हिमालय की पुत्री के रूप में जन्म लिया। इस बार वे 'शैलपुत्री' नाम से विख्यात हुर्ईं। पार्वती, हैमवती भी उन्हीं के नाम हैं। उपनिषद् की एक कथा के अनुसार इन्हीं ने हैमवती स्वरूप से देवताओं का गर्व-भंजन किया था।
कलश स्थापना: विधि

नवरात्रा का प्रारम्भ आश्विन शुक्ल पक्ष की प्रतिपदा तिथि को कलश स्थापना के साथ होता है. कलश को हिन्दु विधानों में मंगलमूर्ति गणेश कास्वरूप माना जाता है अत: सबसे पहले कलश की स्थान की जाती है. कलश स्थापना के लिए भूमि को सिक्त यानी शुद्ध किया जाता है. भूमि की शुद्धि के लिए गाय के गोबर और गंगा-जल से भूमि को लिपा जाता है।
शैलपुत्री पूजा विधि:

शारदीय नवरात्र पर कलश स्थापना के साथ ही माँ दुर्गा की पूजा शुरू की जाती है. पहले दिन माँ दुर्गा के पहले स्वरूप शैलपुत्री की पूजा होती है. दुर्गा को मातृ शक्ति यानी स्नेह, करूणा और ममता का स्वरूप मानकर हम पूजते हैं। अत: इनकी पूजा में सभी तीर्थों, नदियों, समुद्रों, नवग्रहों,दिक्पालों, दिशाओं, नगर देवता, ग्राम देवता सहित सभी योगिनियों को भी आमंत्रित किया जाता और और कलश में उन्हें विराजने हेतु प्रार्थना सहित उनका आहवान किया जाता है। कलश में सप्तमृतिका यानी सात प्रकार की मिट्टी, सुपारी, मुद्रा सादर भेट किया जाता है और पंच प्रकार के पल्लव से कलश को सुशोभित किया जाता है.इस कलश के नीचे सात प्रकार के अनाज और जौ बोये जाते हैं जिन्हें दशमी तिथि को काटा जाता है और इससे सभी देवी-देवता की पूजा होती है. इसे जयन्ती कहते हैं जिसे इस मंत्र के साथ अर्पित किया जाता है “जयन्ती मंगला काली भद्रकाली कपालिनी, दुर्गा क्षमा शिवा धात्री स्वाहा, स्वधा नामोस्तुते”. इसी मंत्र से पुरोहित यजमान के परिवार के सभी सदस्यों के सिर पर जयंती डालकर सुख, सम्पत्ति एवं आरोग्य का आर्शीवाद देते हैं।कलश स्थापना के पश्चात देवी का आह्वान किया जाता है कि ‘हे मां दुर्गा हमने आपका स्वरूप जैसा सुना है उसी रूप में आपकी प्रतिमा बनवायी है आप उसमें प्रवेश कर हमारी पूजा अर्चना को स्वीकार करें’. देवी दुर्गा की प्रतिमा पूजा स्थल पर बीच में स्थापित की जाती है और उनके दोनों तरफ यानी दायीं ओर देवी महालक्ष्मी, गणेश और विजया नामक योगिनी की प्रतिमा रहती है और बायीं ओर कार्तिकेय, देवी महासरस्वती और जया नामक योगिनी रहती है तथा भगवान भोले नाथ की भी पूजा की जाती है. प्रथम पूजन के दिन “शैलपुत्री” के रूप में भगवती दुर्गा दुर्गतिनाशिनी की पूजा फूल, अक्षत, रोली, चंदन से होती हैं।

भूमि-भवन वाहन की प्राप्ति हेतु नवरात्रि के प्रथम दिवस के उपाय

संपूर्ण प्रयासों के बावजूद भी भूमि-भवन वाहन की प्राप्ति नहीं हो रही है तो नवरात्र के पहले दिन यानी मां शैलपुत्री के दिन रात्रि में 8 बजे के बाद चौकी पर लाल कपड़ा बिछा कर उस पर दुर्गा जी का यंत्र स्थापित करें। तत्पश्चात 1 लौंग, 1गोमती चक्र, एक साबुत सुपारी, एक लाल चंदन का टुकड़ा, 1 रक्त गुंजा, इन समस्त सामग्री को एक पानी से भरे लोटे में रखें। घी का दीपक जला लें। 3 माला ॥ ॐ ह्लीं फट्ï॥ की करें और एक माला ऐं ह्लीं क्लीं चामुण्डाय विच्चे शैलपुत्री देव्यै नम: की जाप करें। प्रत्येक माला के बाद लोटे पर एक फूंक मारे। फिर उस लोटे के जल को पीपल वृक्ष की जड़ में चढ़ा दें, उन लौंग एवं सुपारी को भी वहीं मिट्टïी में दबा दें। लाल चंदन का टुकड़ा और रक्त गुंजा का अपने ऊपर से उसार करके बहते पानी में बहा दें। अनावश्यक कोर्ट-कचेहरी के मामलों से छुटकारा मिल जाएगा।
यदि अनावश्यक रूप से कोर्ट-कचहरी के मामलें परेशान कर रहे हो तो हर रोज 40 दिन तक 108 मोगरे के पुष्प ॐ ह्लीं श्रीं क्रीं शैलपुत्रिये नम:ï। मंत्र का जाप करते हुए अर्पित करें। प्रारंभ प्रथम नवरात्र को यह उपाय शुभ मुहूर्त में प्रारंभ करें।

Shri Shailputri is the first form of Shri Durga. Being the daughter of the mountain king Himalaya, she is called Shailputri. They are worshiped and worshiped on the first day of Navratri. Being the daughter of Giriraj Himalaya, the first form of Bhagwati is that of Shailputri, by whose worship the creature attains all the desired results.
Maa Shailputri sits on her vehicle Vrishabha with a trident in her right hand and a lotus flower in her left hand. In the worship of this first day of Navratri, the seekers establish their mind in the 'Mooladhara' chakra, worshiping Shailputri awakens the 'Mooladhara Chakra' and from here the yoga practice starts, from which many types of powers are obtained.
Shardiya Navratri, the festival of worship of Maa Durga Shakti, has been celebrated since the time immemorial from Pratipada to Navami. Every form of Adi-Shakti is worshiped during the nine days of Navratri. Hence it is also known as Navratri. All the deities, demons, human beings yearn for his grace-vision. It is an important festival of Hindu society, which is of great importance from all four points of view, religious, spiritual, moral and worldly. The festival of Durga Puja comes twice a year, one in Chaitra month and the other in Ashwin month for Goddess Durga in Chaitra month. Worship is done with great pomp but the month of Ashwin has special significance. In Durga Saptashati also, the glory of the Shardianvaratras of the month of Ashwin has been specially mentioned. The law of Durga Puja is the same in both the months, both are celebrated from Pratipada to Dashami Tithi.
Story of Mata Shailputri

Once king Daksh carried out a Yajna prayer service. In this he invited all the deities to receive their respective sacrifices, but he did not invite Shankarji to this yagya. When Sati heard that her father was performing the rituals of a huge yajna, her mind was troubled to go there.
He told this wish to Shankarji. After considering all the things, he said – Prajapati Daksha is angry with us for some reason. He has invited all the deities in his yagya. His sacrifice parts have also been dedicated to him, but we have not been called deliberately. No information has been sent yet. In such a situation your going there will not be preferable in any way.'
Sati was not enlightened by this teaching of Shankarji. His eagerness to see his father's yajna, go there and meet his mother and sisters could not be reduced in any way. Seeing his strong request, Lord Shankarji allowed him to go there.
Sati reached her father's house and saw that no one was talking to her with respect and love. All the people are turned away. Only his mother embraced him with affection. The words of the sisters were filled with expressions of sarcasm and ridicule.
Due to this behavior of the family members, his heart was deeply hurt. He also saw that there is a feeling of contempt for Lord Shankarji all around. Daksha also said some derogatory words towards him. Seeing all this, Sati's heart was filled with anger, guilt and anger. He thought that do not listen to Lord Shankarji, I have made a big mistake by coming here.
She could not bear this humiliation of her husband Lord Shankar. He immediately burnt that form to ashes by burning it there. Hearing this sad and tragic incident like a thunderbolt, Shankarji got angry and sent his ganas and completely destroyed that yajna of Daksha.
Sati consumed her body by Yogagni and was born as the daughter of Shailraj Himalaya in the next life. This time she became famous by the name 'Shailputri'. Parvati, Hemavati are also his names. According to a legend from the Upanishads, it was he who had destroyed the gods with the form of Haimavati.
Kalash Installation: Method

Navratra begins with the establishment of a Kalash on the Pratipada date of Ashwin Shukla Paksha. Kalash is considered to be the form of Mangalmurti Ganesha in Hindu rituals, so the Kalash is placed first. For setting up the Kalash, the land is moistened, that is, purified. For the purification of the land, the land is smeared with cow dung and Ganga-water.
Shailputri Puja Method:

Worship of Maa Durga is started with the installation of Kalash on Shardiya Navratri. On the first day, Shailputri, the first form of Maa Durga, is worshipped. We worship Durga as the embodiment of maternal power i.e. affection, compassion and love. Therefore, all the yoginis including all the pilgrimages, rivers, oceans, Navagrahas, Dikpalas, directions, city deities, village deities are also invited in their worship and they are invoked with prayer to sit in the Kalash. Saptmrita i.e. seven types of soil, betel nut, mudra is offered in the Kalash and the Kalash is decorated with five types of Pallava. Seven types of grains and barley are sown under this Kalash which are harvested on Dashami Tithi. And with this all the gods and goddesses are worshipped. It is called Jayanti which is offered with this mantra “Jayanti Mangala Kali Bhadrakali Kapalini, Durga Kshama Shiva Dhatri Swaha, Swadha Namostute”. With this mantra, the priest blesses all the members of the host's family with happiness, wealth and health by putting Jayanti on their heads. The statue has been made, you enter it and accept our worship. The idol of Goddess Durga is installed in the middle of the place of worship and on both the sides i.e. on the right side are the idols of Goddess Mahalakshmi, Ganesha and Vijaya and Yoginis named Kartikeya, Goddess Mahasaraswati and Jaya reside on the left and Lord Bhole Nath. Worship is also done. On the first day of worship, Bhagwati Durga Durgatinashini in the form of "Shailputri" is worshiped with flowers, akshat, roli, sandalwood.
